Move over Cheryl Burke, Emmitt Smith has a new partner: Barney the White House Scottie.

Still basking in celebrity from his dancing triumph with Burke on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, the former Dallas Cowboys running back is back in yet another entertainment venue with a cameo appearance in “Barney Cam V: Barney’s Holiday Extravaganza.”

Featured on the White House website, the latest episode of Barney Cam…

depicts the strong-willed presidential pooch in a fanciful plot in which he attempts to put together a holiday bash.

With Barney scampering through the White House as the star of the show, Smith plays only a brief supporting role. And, in this outing, the ex-Cowboy wears a conservative gray suit, a pale violet tie and white shirt – a subdued contrast from the sleeveless costume he sported in claiming the Dancing With the Stars title last month.< The cast also features the president and first lady, country star, Dolly Parton and a lineup of administration heavyweights, including presidential adviser Karl Rove and chief White House spokesman Tony Snow. Miss Beazley, another White House Scottie, and Willie the Bush family cat, also known as “Kitty,’’ also get turns before the camera.

Smith enters the picture when he attempts to console a distraught Margaret Spellings, the Education secretary, after Barney rejects her in a dance audition.

After reaching Smith by cell phone, Spellings complains: “I just don’t get it. I didn’t make it. I did everything you said.”

Smith responds: “You did your best, Margaret. Continue to follow your dreams and do not get discouraged. Look what happened to me.”

Then he adds: “Look I gotta go now. I gotta go dance. I’ll talk to you later. Bye. Bye.”

White House spokesman Blair Jones said Smith seemed like a good fit for the program after he and Burke, a professional dancer, won the televised dancing title. Smith, the NFL’s leading all-time rusher, is a former member of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and knows the president, Jones said.

“Given his recent success as a nationally recognized dancer, we thought it would be a fun thing to do,” said Jones.
