Helmsley’s Pooch Gets Tons of Dough in Will

Leona Helmsley and Trouble

Trouble, Leona Helmsley‘s, white Maltese who lived up to her name biting a housekeeper, took a $12 million bite out of the will much to the dismay and shock of family members. Trouble will later be buried alongside Helmsley in a mausoleum when she dies.

I direct that when my dog, Trouble, dies, her remains shall be buried next to my remains in the Helmsley mausoleum

, Helmsley wrote in her will.

The will leaves a total of $50 million in bequests to Trouble the dog and three family members (two of them who received less than Trouble), and instructs that the remainder of her personal fortune – which is estimated to be valued at between $4 billion and $8 billion – to the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

She pointedly excluded two of her grandkids, Craig and Meegan Panzirer, “for reasons which are known to them,” the filing says. Her 12 great-grandchildren aren’t mentioned at all.
