shutterfly custom dog tags

hello my name is sticker

actually very helpful!

Fun “Hello My Name Is” Dog Tags: (available from Shutterfly) It was just a few nights ago that I was filling out my “Hello My Name Is” sticker at my son’s “back to school” night. At first it seems silly to be filling out one of these and sticking it to my shirt, but they are so useful!

How else am I going to remember the names of parents that I see twice a year? Not to mention, these were probably a god-send to the poor teacher who had to mingle with 50 parents that night!

Origin of the “Hello My Name Is” Stickers

The thought occurred to me that these handy little stickers have been around for a long time, so I took to Googling them. Turns out they’ve been around since first being introduced by the “C-Line” company in 1959, and are now apparently popular with graffiti artists who use them as tags. (who knew?)

Hello My Name Is for Dogs (and cats)

dog_tag_funny_customWhile investigating the “Hello My Name Is” stickers, I also came across dog tags with the same iconic design; pretty cool! Not only are these tags highly functional (also has your phone # on the back) but also a great ice-breaker at a dog park. (Especially if you’re single!)

Tip: If you get one at shutterfly.com, definitely choose one of the marker fonts like “Andy, Felt Tip Roman, or Kidprint Bold,”  for the best hand-written effect.

If you use a coupon for Shutterfly, these are only about $6 each, and are easy to add to any photo order if you don’t want to pay for shipping.

Anyway, I’m terrible with both human and dog names, so anything fun that helps me out is always welcome!

Speaking of dog parks, if you are single, you can get a free 7-day trial for match.com from the same site!

dachshund stung by bee

Mmm… bees! (DOH!)

Did you ever laugh at something that made you feel like you’re going to hell? That’s how I feel right now. These poor dogs snapped at bees and got stung. (And now look like sock monkeys)

As far as I know, they all seemed to recover well after a trip to the vet, and their owners were calm enough to snap priceless photos.

What to do if your dog gets stung by a bee

If it’s possible to get the stinger out, that will help your dog a lot. Use a tweezers to grab it, or a credit card to scrape it out, but try not to break the stinger, and make things worse.

For a mild sting, you can make a paste out of baking soda and water, and apply it to the area that was stung. Applying ice can also help sooth your dog’s pain.

Your dog may need to visit the vet!

Most of the time, your best bet is to get to the vet ASAP, as you may not be able to just pluck the stinger out, and it’s probably an operation better handled by the professionals.

Dog reactions to bee stings can differ

Also, if there is excessive swelling, your veterinarian will want to prescribe an over the counter antihistamine, which can help with allergic reactions.

Some dogs may have more severe reactions, including vomiting, pale gums, diarrhea, or behavioral changes. If any of these occur, get to your vet asap! (But remain calm in front of your dog)

In the meantime, I’m going to take a deep breath, and try not to smile at the pain of these poor dogs! :(

Stupid Alabama Fan Dyes Their Smart Dog

alabama crimson tide dog

Dying to be cool? I realize that people get really excited about college football, but this recent photo of a dog that has been dyed in the colors and logo of Alabama’s Crimson Tide is awful.

I think the irony here is that poodles are ranked as one of the smartest dog breeds in the world, so I’m sure that this dog isn’t pleased with what their stupid owner did to them. The dog probably won’t appreciate being laughed at wherever it goes, and I’m sure it will turn pink in a week or two when that color fades.

Roll Tide? How about just putting an Alabama t-shirt on your dog next time… Jeez.

John Krasinski attempts to spray paint Alec Baldwin’s Dog in this funny new commercial for New Era apparel. Apparently John is a diehard Red Sox fan, and Alec is a big Yankees fan. Video below. Funny!
